Gallaudet National Essay, Art, and ASL Contest
Win Scholarship Money or Cash Awards
Gallaudet University and the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center invite deaf and hard of hearing students 9-19 years old to participate in the annual Gallaudet National Essay, Art, and ASL Contest. The theme of the contest is “Going Green: What I’m Doing to Help Save the Environment.”
Only we can take care of our planet. Taking care of Earth means taking care of its land, water, plants, animals, and air. Everyone—including you—has a part to play.
Write, draw, or sign about what you can do to help save the environment. Did you know, for example, that recycling one plastic bottle can save enough energy to power a 60-watt bulb for six hours? Your ideas could be projects that you would like to start. You could develop an environmental awareness campaign. You could share ideas about an environmental project you are currently involved with at home, at school, or in your community. Think energy-saving tips; think reduce, recycle, reuse; think about changing to green-friendly packaging; think organic farming; think about lobbying the government for greener policies and laws.
Please click on the categories—ESSAY, ART, and ASL (American Sign Language) to learn more about the rules and prizes. There are two age groups in each category, 9-14 and 15-19. There are also different prizes for each age group.
We are now accepting entries through February 2, 2009.
